Troop 373 is an active, fun organization dedicated to introducing young men from our community to the Boy Scouting values. We work with the scouts at all levels to set goals and work hard to achieve them. We are proud to be the home troop to 155 Eagle Scouts. It is our goal that each of our scouts achieves this honor, and we work with all scouts to accomplish this goal.

We live by the Scout Oath, Scout Law, Scout Motto and Scout Slogan. We're proud to be Scouts, and want to share that pride with others. We are independently chartered and we maintain an active schedule of fun events for the scouts including weekly troop meetings, monthly camping trips, summer camps, merit badge colleges and special events.

Troop 373 meetings are on Tuesday nights 7:00-8:30pm at the Newton Middle School Cafeteria, 4001 E. Arapahoe Rd., Centennial, CO 80122 (Located on the corner of Arapahoe and Colorado - enter from the east parking lot)  We meet weekly during the school year.

Nathan Mariska Eagle Project Fundraiser at Chick-fil-A

A fundraiser is being held to help Nathan Mariska raise money for his Eagle Scout project.  You can support Nathan and his project by eating dinner at the Chick-fil-A on Arapahoe Rd just east of I-25 on April 6, 2017 between 5 and 8 PM.   Just mention that you are there to support Nathan when you order at the counter or drive thru.  25% of the sales will go towards Nathan's project.  Thank you!

Summer Camp Swim Checks

If your scout is going to summer camp this year they will need to have a swim check done ahead of time. Mr. Short is offering these in early June ahead of summer camp. Please sign up and indicate in the notes field which day you plan to come for a swim check.

Also - if your scout would like to work on the swimming requirements for 1st or 2nd class, the swimming merit badge, or the Life Saving merit badge, please have your scout contact Mr. Short directly at a scout meeting or by email.


New Parent Tip

Now is a good time to establish an email for your son. A big part of the scout program is to develop strong communication skills in our scouts and to that end your scout will be asked to handle his own communication with other scouts and adult leaders. For example, when he needs to turn advancement information into Mr. Schmahl, the email needs to come from your scout. Mr. Schmahl won't accept an email from you. It has to be from your son. Your scout can either use his school email. Many parents set up home email accounts so scout email doesn't get lost in school email. Once you have set up your son's email account, please send it to Mr. Schmahl so it can be added to our records (and other scouts and adults can look on the website for his contact information should they need it). And then begin encouraging your new scout to check that email account once a week.

Two fun merit badge weekend camping trips planned!

Sign up is now open for a fun weekend in April for scouts to work on the rifle and shooting sports merit badges. Also, scouts can learn or improve their rock climbing skills (ropes, belays, etc.). Location: Peaceful Valley.

Sign up is now open for a fly fishing merit badge weekend in July. Work toward earning your fly fishing merit badge (but if you want to go and fish with a spinning rod, that is ok too). Location: beautiful 11 Mile Canyon.

New Parent Tips

Now that you're officially in Boy Scouts, we hope to provide you with some ongoing tips to help you and your son in his journey.

1.  Scout book.  You received a scout book when you crossed over. This book will stay with your scout for his entire scouting career. It's important to protect it.  Get a good cover for the book. We like the ones with zippers so your son can store pens and anything else he might need.  The scout store has nice covers. You can also find them on ebay like this one.

2.  Make copies of important pages. It's likely that one of the following will happen to your scout book: it gets left somewhere, falls off the roof of a car, somehow ends up in three pieces. You get the picture. Then all those things that have been signed off but not turned into Mr. Schmahl (the advancement chair) seem to be lost.  Tip: periodically make copies of pages that your scout has things signed off on but not turned in.

3. 3-ring binder. This will be your best friend for helping your scout get and stay organized especially when he starts working on merit badges down the road. A 3-ring binder filled with a few sheets of baseball card holders. Once a blue card (for a merit badge) is signed off and turned in, your scout will keep a third of blue card as proof that it was signed and completed. Helpful if something gets lost down river in the reporting process. The portion of the blue card you will keep fits perfectly in a baseball card plastic sheet holder. Also, there is most often some paperwork that goes along with each merit badge. You can 3-hole punch the paperwork and put it in the binder so it doesn't get lost....as sometimes scouts starts on a merit badge, then go long periods of time before they start on it again, etc.

It's time for our one and only troop fundraiser - flower sales delivered in time for Mother's Day!

Information and the flyer can be found in the "Flower Sale - 2017" section under "Menu" on the left side of this page.  Our first event is flyer delivery on April 2nd. This year we are canvassing in Highlands Ranch. Please use sign up on the right. Parents needed to help drive.
