Copper Mountain Resort Overnight, January 2006

We stayed overnight at the top of the world at 12,000 feet above sea level at the Copper Mountain Ski Patrol Hut.  We skied and snowboarded all day at Copper Mountain Resort and enjoyed perfect Colorado conditions.  Several inches of fresh powder and plenty of sunshine all day.  The Scouts skied or snowboarded with their buddy and the adults also got lots of exercise too.  We all met at the top of the mountain before the lifts closed and stayed overnight at the top.  We played games and talked a lot and even watched several movies in our rustic surroundings. At sunset the clouds came in and it started to snow.  The wind came and it snowed all night causing large snow drifts everywhere.  Early Sunday morning wakeup to get the place cleaned and ready.  We departed from the top of the mountain at 7:30 am well before the lifts opened.  We departed from the top during a big snow blizzard with strong 30+ mph winds and we all were worried.  Then we started skiing and snowboarding and suddenly we realized that we had lots of fresh powder everywhere.  We were the only ones on the mountain and we were making our own tracks in 7 inches of new fresh powder.  It was so beautiful and amazing that we could actually ski and snowboard even with backpacks on our backs.  We cheered at the bottom of the mountain as the first paying customers were just getting on the ski lifts.  They thought they would be the first to ski or snowboard the new 7 inches of new fresh powder but Troop 373 concurred the mountain first.
