Troop 373 Campout and Yule Marble Mine Quarry Tour, Marble Colorado, August  2005

Geology Merit Badge at its best by having a private tour of a working Marble stone quarry where the Yule Marble is 99 percent pure white.  Most of the Washington DC Memorials have been mined in this area of Marble, Colorado.  This Yule Marble mine is still very active and has enough pure marble to last several hundred more years.  Our Troop 373 had an end of the summer campout in this area and hiked up to the quarry for the unique tour.  Mr. Rohde, Scoutmaster was the leader of this adventure and knows the owners of this mine.  Marble is located south of Glenwood Springs near the town of Redstone.  East of Marble over the mountain range is the ski resort town of Aspen.  Colorado is a fantastic state with lots of history.
