Troop 373 Backpack Overnight to White Ranch Open Space, September 2004

The Troop organized a beginner overnight campout to White Ranch Open Space in the Jefferson County Park system.  Fifteen Scouts and adults hiked the 2 miles over the mountain to reach this campsite.  The views of Denver and the whole front range from the campsite was amazing.  Everyone enjoyed trying new recipies on their backpacking stoves (some were brand new stoves...)  The rain came during the campfire and everyone decided to go to bed early and stay dry.  This camping area was free and just required a camping permit.  It even included firewood for the campfire. Congratulations to the Scouts and adults that were new to backpacking and will now become experts in the art of less weight in the pack means having a better time.  Car camping is just not as much fun as backpacking all your food, water, tents, clothes, stoves, pots and pans etc etc etc............
